EMERGING FROM THE EMERGENCY – ONE PLANET, ONE HUMANITY, ONE HEALTH

The Planetary Emergency Partnership is a unique influencing global platform that brings together leaders from governments, UN,  international organizations, business, civil society, youth movements, scientific institutions and academia. Their common objective is to secure recognition of and concomitant action on the planetary emergency - the convergence of global social inequalities, the climate crisis and vast biodiversity loss. The platform grew out of a small group of partners convened by the Club of Rome, WWF, the Potsdam Institute to develop the Planetary Emergency Plan.

It is being driven by a core group of strategic partners, including the Club of Rome (Sandrine Dixson-Declève, President of the Club of Rome), Climate & Sustainability (Elise Buckle, President of Climate & Sustainability and Planetary Emergency Facilitator), the Potsdam Institute, WWF, Nature4Climate, the Global Commons Alliance, TEDxCountdown, the Climate Champions team, SYSTEMIQ, Mighty Earth and Climate Advisers, and UN strategic advisors, alongside a broader partnership group.

This platform for collaboration, which now counts around 300 partners all over the world, has grown into a unique influencing platform bringing together experts on health, climate, nature/biodiversity, sustainability, finance and economics. It goes across international organisations, government institutions, business, civil society, youth movement, scientific institutions and academia.

TOGETHER WE ARE CALLING FOR HEALTHY, JUST AND GREEN RECOVERY FOR PEOPLE AND THE PLANET, BECAUSE WE ALL SHARE ONE HEALTH ON ONE PLANET.

The most recent joint initiatives have centred around bottom-up mobilisation, top down-advocacy outreach and policy influence, founded on scientific facts and economic evidence. Through these initiatives we succeed in:

  • Translating local and national Planetary Emergency Declarations into action (in now 30+ countries)

  • Ensuring a green and social recovery centred on a healthy planet for healthy people through a Call for Action supported 3,500+ leaders and scientists, published in the Financial Times in March 2020

  • Influencing the G20 Finance Ministers policy recommendations and decision

  • Coordinating with Avaaz to grow a citizens movement with 1 million people asking Christine Lagarde, Ursula von der Leyen and Angela Merkel for a green recovery

  • Supporting the High Ambition Coalition for People & Nature, as well as the High Ambition Coalition for climate action, for the launch of a new government-led statement on the World Environment Day, which was endorsed by 14 countries from all continents, including 3 Heads of States.
